Mosaics were used across the ancient world for domestic interior decoration. Splendid mosaic floors, walls and ceilings distinguished luxurious Roman villas all across the empire. Ravenna, capital of the empire from the 5^th to 7^th century is still known world-wide as the World Capital of Mosaic on account of its unique heritage.

But past the Middle ages, this decorative technique was somehow abandoned in favor of other media such as frescoes or paintings.

Today we see a renewal of the interest in this beautiful media, a Renaissance of its use. Mosaic is a long lasting decorative media. And uses noble materials : Stones, Pottery, ceramics, glasses…
